The News is an omnipresent information system that reaches almost everyone on the planet.
You can't turn it off.
You have no control over it.
And it's your enemy.
1. Barack Obama is an Alien and Vladimir Putin was raised by bears
Fake news is either:
Hyperbolic fiction that's designed to go viral on social media and collect ad revenue for immoral but enterprising creators.
Targeted misinformation warfare. Slur campaigns designed to tarnish the reputation or popularity of an opponent.
After being dragged into the US election by one of the most successful fake news stories ever, Pope Francis described it as a 'sickness'.
Right was he.
Fake news is your enemy.
2. The news isn't for you, it's for the 1%
The 1% heavily influence the news.
When doing so, they are not thinking about you, they are thinking about themselves. They are simply trying to get you to see the world like they do.
“the 20th century has been characterized by three developments of great political importance: the growth of democracy, the growth of corporate power, and the growth of corporate propaganda as a means of protecting corporate power against democracy."
Noam Chomsky from World Orders: Old and New
News media controlled by the 1% is your enemy.
3. Too much, too often
The news never stops.
How, amongst all the other shit life throws at you, do you make sure that you see the news that matters to you?
If you paid attention to every Tweet, Instagram, Facebook post, TV broadcast, Newspaper headline, WordPress blog, Buzzfeed list, Viral YouTube video, WhatsApp message, RSS feed update, weekly digest email, website article and radio report that fights for your attention, what else would you get done in life?
This over saturation of news content is the culture of constant distraction manifest and it's accelerating. Being bombarded by news that you don't care about or can't apply in your life doesn't help you.
Too much news is your enemy.
4. Obey me BITCH, I'm the news
You will be familiar with the the bold typefaces, attractive anchors, dramatic music, persuasive language, disturbing real life footage and creative use of graphics that are deployed to tell modern news stories.
This communications vernacular is not designed to help you gain a balanced understanding of a story. It's an authoritarian language that shouts to your emotional core. It tells you what to think and discourages being questioned.
Anyone seeking an unquestioning authority over you, is your enemy.
5. it wastes your time
Behind many eye catching thumbnails and sensational headlines, the internet hides a vast labyrinth of pointless bullshit pretending to be news.
You've been there. More than once. Each time, that sneaky click-bait wasted some of your life and with so much to do, you can't afford that.
Click-bait is your enemy.
6. It's a Toxic habit
"We are beginning to recognise how toxic news can be."

Panicky stories constantly trigger the limbic system and chronic stress and anxiety is the result.
Side effects include: impaired digestion, lack of growth (cell, hair, bone), nervousness and susceptibility to infections. The other potential side-effects include fear, aggression, tunnel-vision and desensitisation.
People that disrupt your emotional well being are your enemy.
7. it spreads fear and ignorance
Keywords: CANCER, MIGRANT, MUSLIM, IMMIGRATION, FURY, OUTRAGE, TERROR, CHAOS, FOREIGN, CRISIS...
The communications equivalent of George Orwell's boot stamping on a human face forever.
Anybody that spreads ignorance and fear (especially to make money) is your enemy.
Can we fight back?
Can we turn this enemy into a friend?
Can we change the rules and give the people control over the news?
Can we shine a light on the world's best journalism?
Can we give the news a positive role in our society?
We intend to find out.
